Christmas Knitting

7 Sep

Oh knitters, Im beginning to get the Christmas dread. (To some it may be crazy to be thinking about Christmas gifts now, but Christmas knitting takes time!). I don’t like to gift my knitted items very often because I feel people think it’s cheap and don’t appreciate that actually it is not cheap and takes a whole lot of effort. People don’t appreciate that instead of going to a store and getting something off a shelf, you actually went through a whole process of selecting a yarn, a color, a pattern, and then knitting for hours to make something for them. But for those who do appreciate it, I’m starting to think of what I want to make for them. It’s always hard because I feel the pressure of finishing the gifts in time and with all the other pressures of life it becomes a real task to finish in time or anytime before february.

This year I’m not sure I’ve made my task any easier. I’ve decided that instead of making one gift, I’m going to make a knitted goodies gift bag for those lucky or unlucky enough to be deemed worthy of getting my knits. I’m thinking I’ll make some small knitted items and one bigger one for each person eg. a scarf, a clutch, gadget cozy, etc. I’m still not sure but that is the thought so far, we’ll see how far this idea goes.

That’s the “joy” we get from being able to knit and gift!
I’m blessed w/ a family that loves knitted gifts. In fact, the grandcubs think I’m magic! Their uncle knows the time it takes from start to finish as he is 8 and still lives at home. (yes, 4 kids 20 yrs from eldest to youngest)lol..The grandcubs will say “Grandma, can you make me _______?. then the next wk ask if it’s done. I, too, am already in the planning/partially started stage too! Best of luck and only knit for those who “understand”!

Thanks, your family sounds lovely! And yes I try to knit for those that “understand” because I get upset otherwise haha.
