WIP Wednesdays: Vogue Stitchionary Vol. 1 Project

purl ridges

Since receiving my Vogue Stitchionary, I’ve decided that it would be fun to swatch some of the 250+ stitches in the book and it will be a good way to practice and learn some new stitches. The stitch patterns in the book go from easiest to hardest. I decided not to use any fancy yarn for this project since it’s just swatching some stitch patterns, so I am using Caron’s Simply Soft. I hadn’t used this yarn before since I am a bit of a yarn snob these days and prefer not to use acrylic yarns, but I love how soft this yarn is. It’s splitty like crazy and was hard to work with in this first swatch as I got the hang of working with it and got over the annoyance of the initial “splitty-ness” even with my bamboo needles. This yarn is worsted weight and my needles are size 7 (as opposed to the DK weight yarn and size 6 needles used for the samples in the book). This particular swatch is of the purl ridges stitch pattern (pattern 3 on page 11 of the book).
I did not block this swatch and added a selvage edge of one knit row on each end of the square to prevent curling a bit.
